As people live longer and healthier lives, more and more of us are searching for ways to look as young as we feel. Because the aging process causes the face and hands to lose underlying fat and collagen, the skin starts to sag and wrinkle.

Wrinkles are a part of the natural aging process, but they can make you look older than you feel. Injectable wrinkle fillers and dermal fillers have become a popular means of addressing skin sagging and wrinkle problems that result from aging, sun damage, trauma and/or scarring, or disease.

Injectable wrinkle and dermal fillers are commonly used to treat facial lines and wrinkles, hollow cheeks and eyes, receding chins, thinning lips, and wrinkles between the eyes. They may also be used to fill in and plump thinning skin on the hands.

Treatment can take as little as 30 minutes depending on the number of injection sites and the injectables used. The injections are virtually painless and the results can be instant.

CHOOSING THE BEST FILLER TREATMENT

The key to successful use of fillers is knowing which of the many options available will work best for each individual, and on each type of face and skin. Some fillers are intended for superficial wrinkles and some work best for deeper lines and folds. Others are better for deep cheek and under eye hollows and facial atrophy, the severe loss of facial fat. Despite the ease of use and minimal risk, injectable wrinkle fillers need to be injected by an experienced and well trained physician.

Dr. Berger, at Rejuvalife Medical Institute, will help you choose the filler that’s best for you. He will create a customized treatment plan that is designed for your specific signs of aging as well as your goals and budget. Dr. Berger may use temporary fillers such as hyaluronic acid based Restylane®, Juvéderm™, or Perlane®, or longer lasting injectables like Radiesse®, and Sculptra™. BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport® can also be used in conjunction with injectable fillers to release the facial muscles that contribute to wrinkles and furrows. Dr. Berger is highly skilled and knowledgeable in injectable wrinkle fillers and personally performs all injections of filler treatments.

BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX is the most common medical cosmetic treatment, with more than three million treatments performed per year. Dr. Berger uses BOTOX for facial shaping to lift and shape the brow, and to soften or eliminate lines on the forehead, “crow’s feet”, frown lines, sad lines, lines under the eyes, bunny lines, dimpled chins, neck bands and necklace lines, droopping noses, bulging jaw muscles, and fine lines around the lips. Dysport®

Dysport® is the latest cosmetic injectable approved by the FDA to treat facial wrinkles, and is derived from the same substance as Botox®, but in a slightly different formulation.  Like Botox®, Dysport® works by treating specific, wrinkle-causing facial muscles in order to eliminate or improve the dynamic wrinkles. There are benefits to using Dysport - it has a wider area of effect, known as spread, meaning that the injection sites can be spaced farther apart, which may allow for fewer injections for a comparable or better effect.  For some patients Dysport® works faster than Botox®, usually taking effect within three or four days, rather than seven or more. Additionally, preliminary reports suggest that Dysport® may last up to a month longer than Botox®. However, dependent on the desired effect, Dr. Berger will be able to best determine which of the two is best for your individual needs. Radiesse®

Radiesse is an FDA-approved dermal filler that stimulates the body to produce new collagen. This filler contains calcium hydroxylapatite, a normal constituent of bone, so it should not elicit a chronic inflammatory or immune response. Additionally, the gel carrier does not require allergy testing, as is required with collagen. Dr. Berger recommends using Radiesse for smoothing facial lines, filling in facial recessions and scars, and restoring volume in and around the cheeks. Radiesse can also be used to in the 30-minute non-surgical nose job procedure and may help restore fullness to the hands for a younger appearance. Individual results will vary, but most patients report correction for approximately nine to 18 months. Juvederm® Plus / Juvederm ® Ultra Plus

Juvéderm is a “next generation” smooth gel, non-animal dermal filler. The special formulation of Juvéderm allows it to flow easily into the skin, creating a smooth appearance and a natural feel. The smooth consistency may also help to minimize the discomfort that can sometimes occur during the injection. Juvéderm Plus is best used for softening the “parentheses” lines on the sides of your nose and mouth. It offers a longer lasting result than other hyaluronic acid fillers—up to six months or more. Juvéderm UltraPlus works best for deeper wrinkles and folds, and for augmenting the body of the lips and adding deeper volume to the upper face. Restylane®

Since 1996, doctors worldwide have administered millions of Restylane treatments. Dr. Berger recommends this dermal filler to soften smile lines, fill in acne scars, correct asymmetrical features, or add volume to and frame your lips. Restylane can also be used to in the 30-minute non-surgical nose job procedure. Restylane is a gel form of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body that gives your skin volume. Perlane®

Perlane is composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally gives skin volume. By injecting Perlane into key areas, Dr. Berger may help restore more youthful contours to the face. Dr. Berger uses Perlane for treating moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth. It also works best for deeper wrinkles and folds, and for augmenting the body of the lips and adding deeper volume to the upper face. Perlane can also be used to in the 30-minute non-surgical nose job procedure. Some redness and tenderness may result, but this normally this subsides within seven days. Within two weeks, many patients look like a rested, more youthful version of themselves. Perlane results can last up to six months or more.

Evolence®

EVOLENCE is dermal filler that replaces structure and volume providing collagen that is lost through the natural aging process. Dr. Berger injects EVOLENCE into unwanted wrinkles and folds, making them appear smoother and softer. In just one visit, you may notice visible results from an Evolence injection that last for at least six months. EVOLENCE causes very little to no swelling and requires no downtime. Patients can get right back to their normal activities—and enjoy a fresher, more youthful appearance.

Sculptra™

Sculptra is a collagen regeneration product that stimulates your skin’s fibroblasts to produce new collagen. It is a soft tissue filler that is used to fill in areas that have lost fat due to aging, such as the cheek hollows, smile lines, and depressions around the eyes. Fat Transfer

Fat transfer is a non-invasive method of restoring volume by transferring fat from an area that has an abundance (such as the lower abdomen or buttocks) into an area that has lost volume (such as the face). The fat transfer procedure, also known as micro-lipoinjection, is often useful in correcting skin defects, deep furrows and wrinkles on the face, and depressions on other areas of the body. Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

The Non-Surgical Nose Job, also known as injection rhinoplasty, is one that creates a shapelier, more balanced nose shape. In just minutes, and without the use of a scalpel, Dr. Berger can improve the contours of your nose by injecting soft tissue fillers into precise locations. Botox® Browlift
Non Surgical

Botox® & Facial Muscles
The brow area is home to two types of muscles, the depressors that “pull down� the brows and those muscles that “lift-up� the brows. Botox works by paralyzing the depressors thus leaving the lift-up muscles unopposed and altering the balance between the two muscle groups so a lifting effect is achieved.  An excellent knowledge of facial muscle anatomy is required to do this safely and effectively to achieve the desired results.  Dr. Berger is an expert in all non-surgical procedures of the face and neck and is a Botox specialist.

Botox® Browlift Procedure Overview
After Dr. Berger has identified the specific muscles to be treated, Botox is injected into those muscles using a very fine needle and pre-measured doses.  This involves quick injections with little to no discomfort; in fact most patients describe them as a pinch.  Some swelling, bruising and tenderness at the injection site is normal and resolves over a few days on its own.  Then your results are clearly visible and typically last up to 4 months or longer.
